Oreana launches health and safety initiative: Safety One
At Oreana, safety is not just a priority, it is our number one commitment.
That’s why we are proud to launch our new business-wide workplace program, Safety One.
Safety One is more than just a program, it is a set of beliefs and behaviours that will guide our business – from employees to contractors – going forward.
People are our greatest asset, and their safety is paramount to us, today and every day. With Safety One, we are building a future where every individual who works for us can flourish in a secure and supportive environment.
Oreana co-founder and Managing Director, Tony Sass, explains: “Safety One is the most important initiative across our business to date. More than just an initiative, it places safety at the forefront of everything we do.
“Safety One is far more than a box ticking exercise or a set of obligatory rules.
“It is a shift in mindset from ‘it won’t happen to me’, to being of critical importance at all times – it’s encouraging a culture that ensures safety is owned by everyone.”
Safety One comes from Oreana’s commitment to continuous improvement, acknowledging we can always do better in the world of safety – even if incidents are low.
Safety One will encompass a range of learnings and development opportunities as well as training, covering industry best practices, hazard identification, emergency response protocols and the proper use of safety equipment.
A number of new initiatives will launch including:
- An app to house all our safety documentation and education tools;
- An annual family day for our team and external partners, as well as their families, recognising the importance of our loved ones;
- Improved signage and visual cues across our workplaces;
- A new communications platform where people can anonymously raise issues, insights or ideas relating to safety; and
- Sharing our annual record of injuries openly with our teams to stay accountable.
Safety One will speak to our team at-large – from construction sites through to our head office.
As Tony Sass says: “Creating a safe working environment means our team and partners are making it home to dinner with their families and loved ones each night.
“Getting home to loved ones each night is the number one priority for all our people and that is why it’s also our number one commitment to our team and partners.”
We hope that through building a culture where everyone is empowered and encouraged to put safety first, we can create a workplace where people can truly thrive.
